How Long Do Dental Implants Take to Heal?

If you’re considering full-mouth dental implants, it’s natural to wonder how long the healing process will take. At EvoDental, we focus exclusively on full mouth dental implants, so our approach – from planning to aftercare – is built around helping patients recover as smoothly and comfortably as possible.

Our process is designed to reduce delays and minimise discomfort, helping you get back to daily life quickly with a strong, functional smile. Here’s what you can expect from healing after treatment, and how our team supports you every step of the way.

What to Expect After Treatment

Thanks to our same-day treatment process, most patients leave our clinic with fixed provisional teeth and minimal discomfort. You’ll be given clear instructions to guide you through the first few days and weeks, along with contact details should you need advice.

Common post-treatment experiences include:

  • Mild swelling or bruising
  • Tenderness around the mouth
  • A soft food diet for the first few months

Most patients manage any discomfort easily with over-the-counter pain relief and rest.

The First Few Days

For the first 72 hours:

  • Rest and avoid strenuous activity
  • Use cold compresses to manage swelling
  • Eat only soft, cool foods (anything you can cut with a fork)
  • Avoid hot drinks and alcohol

You can gently brush the prosthetic teeth and surrounding gums after the first 24 hours, using a soft-bristled toothbrush.

Week 1: Settling In

By the end of the first week:

  • Swelling typically begins to reduce
  • Bruising, if present, starts to fade
  • You can slowly return to your normal routine

Stick to a soft food diet and avoid anything too chewy or crunchy. Most patients feel noticeably more comfortable at this stage.

Week 2-4: Ongoing Recovery

During this time, healing continues below the surface as your implants integrate with the jaw. While you’re still wearing your temporary set of teeth, you’ll likely:

  • Feel more confident with eating and speaking
  • Resume light physical activity
  • Introduce slightly firmer foods (e.g. soft vegetables, cooked fish)

Week 6: Review Appointment

You’ll return to your EvoDental clinic around six weeks after treatment for a review. This is when we check your healing progress and make any necessary adjustments.

If you’ve chosen EvoAdvanced™ or EvoUltimate™, you’ll receive your final prosthetic around 12–14 weeks after surgery. This is custom-designed and created in our on-site lab using advanced materials such as PMMA or zirconia.

At this stage, we can also provide you with an EvoCare Kit, which includes:

  • Philips Sonicare electric toothbrush
  • Waterpik Water Flosser
  • Interdental brushes
  • Your oral hygiene manual

Our team will guide you on using these tools to maintain excellent hygiene around your implants.

Long-Term Healing

While you’ll be living normally with your fixed provisional teeth during this time, internal healing – particularly implant integration – continues over the following months. This process can take up to six months depending on the individual.

Routine maintenance appointments are recommended to ensure:

  • The implants remain stable
  • Soft tissues stay healthy
  • The prosthesis is functioning correctly

Please note: follow-up maintenance appointments are not included in the cost of treatment and are chargeable. Your clinician will advise on the frequency based on your specific needs.

Why Choose EvoDental for Full Mouth Dental Implants?

EvoDental doesn’t offer single implants – we focus entirely on full mouth dental implants. That focus means we’ve developed a treatment model that:

  • Avoids unnecessary preparatory treatments like bone grafts or sinus lifts in most cases
  • Reduces recovery times with precision-guided surgery
  • Includes on-site lab design for quicker, better-fitting prosthetics
  • Offers predictable results backed by a highly experienced, multidisciplinary team

We work with patients who’ve been told they aren’t suitable elsewhere – but we also help those seeking a long-term, fixed alternative to dentures. Every case is carefully assessed, and we only recommend treatment if it’s genuinely the right solution.
