EvoDental’s Emergency FAQs

Following the latest lockdown down measures announced by the British government on 4th January 2021, as a medical primary care provider, we are still open during lockdown. 

Treatment at EvoDental is within the specific purpose circumstances that you can leave your home, stated on the government website as  

Medical reasons – You can leave home for a medical reason, including to get a COVID-19 test, for medical appointments and emergencies. 

Dentistry is an essential medical service. Patients are entitled to travel for medical appointments, including dental. 

It is important to continue to look after your health and wellbeing even during these uncertain times. 

To help to reassure you, we have answered some frequently asked questions below, but if you do have any other questions or concerns, the Evo Team are still here for you. We are available Monday-Friday, 9am-5,30pm via phone call and video call to ensure we can assess any concerns you may have.

What do I do if…

A – If it feels like your bridge is loose, and is moving when you chew, it could be that the screws that connect the bridge to your implants have loosened, or worst case that one or more of the implants have lost integration with the jawbone. You may or may not get pain associated with the movement of the bridge. Either way, please get in touch with us so we can arrange a video assessment with a clinician as soon as possible.

My bridge is broken

A – If your bridge breaks, you may find the sharp edge uncomfortable. As an interim measure, you could use a nail file to smooth the sharp edge so that it doesn’t hurt your cheek or tongue. If one or more of the teeth has broken off the prosthesis, we totally understand that it will present an aesthetic challenge but we are unable to repair prosthetics or assess you physically. Please get in touch to let us know what has happened so we can prioritise your repair as soon as we return to seeing patients.

I am in pain

A- There are different causes for pain in the mouth around implant prosthetics, ranging from minor gum irritation to full-blown infection around dental implants. If you have pain from natural teeth you are best advised to call your local dental practice who will have details of urgent dental care centres that are being set up to help patients during the Covid-19 crisis. If you have pain around your Evo Prosthetics, or following recent surgery with us, please get in touch so we can arrange a video assessment with a clinician as soon as possible. You can take paracetamol or Co-codamol to help with the pain, but currently are recommending NOT to take anti-inflammatories such as Ibuprofen as there is early evidence that these drugs can exacerbate the Covid-19 infection.

I have a swelling

A – Severe oral infections can cause swelling. These usually need prompt treatment with antibiotics to prevent the infection spreading. Please contact us so that we can arrange a video assessment with a clinician as soon as possible. Please have to hand the details of your nearest Pharmacy that will be open during the Covid-19 crisis, and if possible contact them first to ensure they can accept a prescription from us by email. We can forward the original prescription to them by post but often they will dispense the medication for you immediately so that you do not have to wait. If you have any difficulty in making these arrangements please contact us, we are here to help.

Emergencies – please call us if you have:

  • Swelling that can potentially compromise orbit or airways (We can verify this with a photograph of the patients face / facetime)
  • Uncontrolled bleeding
  • Uncontrollable pain
